For the first year, all residents in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region (in Northwest China, where most of the country's Muslims live) have been given the day off as a public holiday, rather than just Muslims.
Muslims in work units usually have one day off for the festival, but in some areas such as the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, they enjoy a three-day holiday.
