Costa Rica's Minister of Labour, Fernando Trejos, confirmed that the upcoming April 11 public holiday would be moved to Monday, April 17, 2009. In addition, the public sector will be on holidays for the entire Holy Week (from April 9-16).
This is the first time that last year's amendment to the Labour Code (17-Mar-2005) has an effect.
Employees of the public sector, for whom the 3 first days of the Holy Week were recently declared (14-Feb-2006) as unpaid holidays (ie. deducted from their annual vacation allowances) had been hoping that because April 11 occurs during the Holy Week in 2006, they could only deduct 2 days from their vacation.
