Costa Rica's Minister of Labour, Fernando Trejos, has announced that the public sector would benefit from 10 consecutive days of public holidays on the occasion of the upcoming Easter week (Semana Santa).

These 10 days are made-up from the weekends of April 8-9 and 15-16, 2006, the nationwide public holidays of Maundy Thursday and Good Friday (April 13-14, 2009), and the move of the April 11 public holiday to the following Monday, April 17, 2009 (17-Mar-2005).

The remaining 3 days, April 10-11-12, will be unpaid public sector holidays, that is to say, 3 days will be deducted from public sector workers' annual vacation allowances.
