Czech Senate Votes Good Friday Public Holiday

(Posted on Friday, November 3, 2006)

Source: Ceske Noviny (Prag)

The Senate today again submitted a bill declaring Good Friday national holiday to the Chamber of Deputies and at at the same time proposed that International Women's Day be deleted from the list of Czech special days.

The bill was approved by 41 out of 62 senators present, but may not make it through the Chamber of Deputies where the left and right forces are balanced, as the left supports the International Women's Day being listed among special days, while the right argues that unlike other special days, International Women's Day is not directly connected with the Czech Republic.
