Kyrgyzstan's Parliament Rejects New March 24 Public Holiday

(Posted on Tuesday, April 4, 2006)

Source: Turkish Weekly

Lawmakers in Kyrgyzstan have voted against the proposal to make March 24 a new annual public holiday, claiming that an "objective assessment" of that popular uprising is needed before declaring the day a national holiday.

This follows President Kurmanbek Bakiev's recent declaration of Macrh 24 as a new "Tulip Revolution" public holiday (06-Mar-2006).
