(Posted on Monday, December 18, 2006)

Source: Bernama

The State of Sarawak has announced that January 2, 2007, will be a public holiday in Sarawak if Hari Raya Aidiladha falls on December 31, this year.

The same rule would apply when Chinese New Year falls on Feb 18, then Feb 19 and 20 would be public holidays, and similarly, if Hari Raya Aidilfitri falls on Oct 13, then Oct 14 and 15 will be public holidays.

This is in accordance with the Sarawak Public Holidays Ordinance which states that "if any of these days falls on a Sunday, the following Monday shall be a public holiday unless otherwise ordered by the Yang Dipertua Negeri by notification in the gazette".
