The government of Niger has confirmed that there would be no public sector holiday on Monday, October 23, 2006, despite the fact that this year's Tabaski (Feast of Sacrifice) public holiday falls on a Sunday.
This follows from the passage, earlier this year by Niger's Assemblée Nationale of the draft bill "Proposition de loi modifiant la loi instituant les fêtes légales", which abolished the traditional public sector holiday on the Monday that followed a fixed-date public holiday that falls on a Sunday (13-Apr-2006).
