Niger To Cancel Day In Lieu Public Holidays

(Posted on Thursday, April 13, 2006)

Niger's Assemblée Nationale (unicameral legislative assembly) has approved the draft bill "Proposition de loi modifiant la loi instituant les fêtes légales".

Amongst the changes included in the aforementioned bill, and as part of Niger's government «remise des Nigériens au travail» policy, Niger's civil servants will no longer get a public sector holiday on the Monday that follows a fixed-date public holiday that falls on a Sunday.

Almost a decade ago (23-Jun-1997), Niger gazetted the loi n° 97-20 du 20 juin 1997 instituting days in lieu public holidays on the Monday that follows a fixed-date public holiday that falls on a Sunday.
