Peru Declares October 17 Public Holiday

The president of the council of ministers, Jorge del Castillo has issued Decreto Supremo Nº 070-2006-PCM that makes October 17, 2006, a non-working day, for both the private and public sectors, beginning at noon, in honor of the deceased ex-president of the 2001 transition government, Valentín Paniagua Corazao.

Today, October 16, 2006, will be a working day of mourning.
