According to the Decreto Supremo 193-2006 EF, published on Friday December 8 in the boletín de Normas Legales del diario oficial (Official Gazette), the executive has allowed/encouraged government agencies to give the period of December 18-31 as holidays for civil servants.
This decree applies to all civil servants of the executive branch, with the exception of: education, health, police, military, the intelligence agencies (Dirección Nacional de Inteligencia, DINI) and the Superintendencia Nacional de Administración Tributaria (Sunat). In addition, regional governments can override this decree (07-Dec-2006).
However, this extra holiday period will not consist of additional holidays, but rather a using-up of any holidays due to date, and in some cases, an advance use of 2007 holidays (descanso vacacional adelantado).
