Following the death of the late king, Taufa'ahau Tupou IV, it has been said unofficially that July 4 will no longer be a public holiday in Tonga. The birthday of current King George Tupou V is May 4th, and it will probably be made into a public holiday.
The new Crown Prince, Prince Tupouto'a Lavaka's birthday is on July 12, and it will also probably be made into a public holiday. However, the Lord Chamberlain Hon Fielakepa said today, that at present nothing had been confirmed.
The changes being contemplated stem from last September's death of King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV (18-Sep-2006).
