According to a statement issued today by Ministry of Public Service, the Ugandan government has declared Thursday, February 23, 2006, as a one-off public holiday to enable Ugandans to participate in the presidential and parliamentary elections.

This confirms an announcement made by the government at the end of last month (31-Jan-2006) and is in line with what happened on the occasion of the last presidential election (09-Mar-2001).

Five years ago, Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni, had also declared Tuesday, June 26, 2001, as a one-off public holiday on the occasion of the upcoming parliamentary elections (25-Jun-2001).
