The permanent secretary to the Ugandan Ministry of Public Service, Jimmy Rwamafwa, has issued a statement setting forth 3 public holidays in the coming week.

As per the statement, Monday, March 6, 2006, will be a public holiday throughout Uganda to enable people participate in the Local Council-3 elections, while Wednesday, March 8, will be the annual public holiday for International Women's Day. Finally, Friday, March 10, 2006, will be another one-off public holiday, also designated for local council elections.

These public holidays closely follow a similar one when, last month (20-Feb-2006), the Ugandan government declared Thursday, February 23, 2006, as a one-off public holiday to enable Ugandans to participate in the presidential and parliamentary elections.
