(Posted on Friday, December 1, 2006)

Last night, the St Andrew's Day Holiday Bill, to make November 30 an official public holiday, was approved unanimously by MSPs of the Scottish Parliament.

The approval came after Mr Canavan agreed a compromise with First Minister Jack McConnell that this new holiday could be traded for any one of the eight other public holidays Scottish workers enjoy.
