Uzbekistan's President, Islam Karimov, has issued a resolution declaring Saturday, December 30, 2006, the date of the upcoming Kurban Hayit (Eid al-Adha), as a national non-working public holiday in Uzbekistan.

The festival of Eid al-Adha was made a national non-working public holiday as per the Decree of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On announcing Ruza Hayit a day off" No.UP-368 of March 27, 1992.

The other great Muslim festival, the Id al-Fitr (End of Ramadan), is also a non-working public holiday in Uzbekistan (18-Oct-2006).

Note that, due to the structure of the Islamic Lunar calendar, in 2006, there will have been 2 occurences of the Kurban Hayit (30-Dec-2005).
