Canada Bill To Make February 15 A Public Holiday

(Posted on Saturday, February 17, 2007)

Source: The Province

New Democrat MP (Member of Parliament), Peggy Nash, will introduce a private member's bill to declare Flag Day, Feb. 15, a federal holiday.

Note that private members' bills, in the Canadian Parliament, rarely get a chance to come to a vote, let alone come into law. One notable historical exception being the 1964 private member's bill proposing a change to the Canadian flag and which resulted in today's distinctive Canadian flag.
