The General Office of the State Council confirmed that the Chinese New Year holiday this year would begin on February 18.
The communique goes on to say that, Chinese New Year's Eve not being an official holiday, people are expected to go to work as they would on any other day.
Weeklong, Golden Week, public holidays were introduced in 1999 (20-Sep-1999), in an effort to boost internal tourism and domestic consumption.
