Costa Rica Considering Changes To Moveable Public Holidays

(Posted on Monday, January 15, 2007)

The legislation that aims to rescind the moving of some public holidays to the nearest Monday, lead by Saturnino Fonseca and Lorena Vázquez, leader of the PUSC group in the assembly, is gathering steam.

As per a law passed in 2005 (17-Mar-2005), the public holidays of April 11, July 25, August 15, and October 12, are moved to the following Monday, if they fall on a mid-week weekday.

Of principal concern to deputies are the 2 public holidays of Día de la Anexión de Guanacaste (Jul-25) and Día de la Madre (Aug-15).
