Last night's victory by center-right presidential candidate, Nicolas Sarkozy, means that the restoration of the Whit Monday public holiday (one of the Socialist Party's Manifesto promises), is unlikely.
The Whit Monday (Pentecost Monday) public holiday, which generally falls in late May, was cancelled in early 2004 (02-Feb-2004), to bring in more tax revenues to pay for better healthcare for the elderly and disabled, following the 2003 summer heat wave (06-Nov-2003).
