Germany Prepares For Many Bridge Public Holidays In 2007

(Posted on Tuesday, January 2, 2007)

2007 will be a good year for Germans who wish to optimize their days off work, through Brueckentage (days off that are a bridge between a midweek public holiday and the nearest weekend).

The most effective uses are: by using 8 vacation days, one can be off for 16 days, from March 31 to April 15; then using 8 vacation days yields 16 days off from May 26 to June 10 (although Fronleichnam is not a public holiday in all Länder), and finally, 7 vacation days can be used to have 16 days off from December 22, 2007, until January 6, 2008.
