Ayatollah Khazali, a former member of the powerful Guardians Council and the Experts Assembly for Leadership, once again has proposed that the celebration of Ghadir should replace the traditional Iranian celebration of Nowruz, the traditional Iranian new year.
It appears that Ayatollah Khazali considers Nowruz a heathen remnant of the Persian culture that was forced to move to western India after being wiped-out from Iran in the 8th century.
Another Persian holiday, the Jashn e Sadeh Zoroastrians holiday, celebrated on the 10th day of the month of Bahman, and which and had been regularly declared as a public holiday (26-Jan-2005), was removed from list of official public holidays in Iran for the Persian year 1388, running from March 2006, to March 2007 (13-Mar-2006 and 18-Aug-2005).
