Last night, the Libyan Center for Remote Sensing and Space Science (LCRSS), declared that the month of Ramadan would begin on Wednesday, September 12, 2007, a full day before almost all other Muslim countries.
This confirms an earlier announcement (29-Aug-2007) by Dr Waheeb Al Nasser, a physics professor at the University of Bahrain. Note that the first day of the month Ramadan is not a public holiday in Libya, nor is it in many other Muslim countries.
Though the LCRSSS announcement does not specify the date of the End of Ramadan, we can use the LCRSSS methodology to forecast that, in Libya, the first day of the month of Shawwal (the "Eid Al-Fitr" festival) will be on Friday, October 12, 2007.
