Macau's Chief Executive has announced 2 additional half-day, afternoon, public holidays for 2008, on the eves of both the Western and the Lunar New Years.

This announcement, following a trend started a few years ago (21-May-2004, 16-Jan-2006, 14-Jul-2006, and 31-Jan-2007), was made under the purview of the "Decree Law No. 60/2000 on Public Holidays", and, on the afternoon of Wednesday, February 6, 2008, will allow for an early start to the annual, 3-day, Lunar New Year public holiday.
