President, Bingu wa Mutharika, has announced that henceforth Friday afternoons would be public holidays in Malawi for all Muslims.
But he did not declare public holidays to celebrate the traditional Muslim festival of Eid-ul-Qurban and the day for the birth of their Prophet Muhammad, as the MAM (Muslim Association of Malawi) had long been asking for.
