Government offices will be closed on March 22, in celebration of Commonwealth Covenant Day, observed every March 24.
As that holiday falls on a Saturday this year, it was supposed to be commemorated on Friday. However, it was moved to a day earlier because Friday, March 23, is a scheduled austerity holiday (02-Jan-2007 and 01-Sep-2006).
Note that pursuant to Public Law 15-4, enacted in April 2006 (01-May-2006), the January 9, Commonwealth Day public holiday, and March 24, Covenant Day public holiday, were combined into the Commonwealth Covenant Day public holiday.
