Earlier today, the government of Panama declared Monday, September 3, 2007, as a one-off public holiday for all government workers and both private and public schools, to coincide with the ceremonies for the launch of a 6-year, massive, construction project that will enlarge the Panama Canal.
Recall that, in 1999, the day of the formal handover of the Panama Canal was declared a one-off public holiday (14-Dec-1999).
