Russia takes an extended New Year holiday: An interesting background article on the extended New Year public holidays schedule in Russia, which in some years can lead to 10 days off (as is the case this year).
Note that, although they were voted in December 2004 (24-Dec-2004), the changes actually came into effect only in 2006, despite the original intention (30-Dec-2004).
