The government of the Russian Federation has released RF Government Resolutions No. 512 and 551, "On public holidays transfer in 2008", which confirms the list of 2008 public holidays and additional bridge public holidays to be compensated by a nearby working Saturday or Sunday.

The announced base list of public holidays follows the law passed at the end of 2004 (30-Dec-2004) with respect to the extended beginning of the year public holidays and days in lieu public holidays given on any Monday that follows a weekend public holiday (in 2008: February 23, May 1, May 9, June 12).

In addition, the decree declares bridge public holidays to adjoin the May Day and National Day public holidays with the nearest weekend, to be compensated by making May 4, May 8, and June 7, 2008, regular working days.
