Tomorrow, Thursday, July 12, 2009, Tonga will celebrate its new July 12 public holiday for the first time.

The new July 12th public holiday, the Birthday of the Heir to the Crown of Tonga, was announced at the end of last year (08-Dec-2006), at the same time as the new, August 1st, Coronation Day of the reigning Sovereign of Tonga public holiday which was postponed for 12 months, following the riots of November 2006 (30-Nov-2006).

These 2 public holidays were previously held on May 4th and July 4th, and were no longer public holidays, as of this year (14-Nov-2006).
