Nearly six million workers could soon be entitled to an extra eight days holiday a year under new government proposals. Employers will no longer be able to include bank holidays within the minimum holiday entitlement - currently 20 days.
Four days will be added in October this year, and another four in 2008, which will give workers a minimum of 28 days annual leave. The plans are expected to bring the UK closer in line with other European Union countries, where workers have an average of 33.4 days off a year.
