Argentina's Minister of the Interior, Florencio Randazzo, announced that President Cristina Fernández had signed decree 2095 declaring Friday, December 26, 2008, and Friday, January 2, 2009, as one-off non-working bridge public holidays for the public sector (asueto administrativo para los empleados estatales).
The decree also extends the usual half-day public sector holidays of December 24 and 31 to a full day in 2008.
Article 3 of the aforementioned decree does specify that these 2 bridge public holidays will not apply to banks and financial institutions.
This declaration of December 26 and January 2 as one-off public holidays, follows earlier announcements by Nicaragua (05-Dec-2008) and Costa Rica (28-Nov-2008), who declared the entire period from Christmas to the New Year as public holidays for their respective private sectors.
