Earlier this week, El Salvador's Legislative Assembly passed Legislative Decree 704 of 1 September 2008, giving the public sector teachers a special holiday on the day after the September 15 Independence Day.
The present decree, which amends article 1 of Legislative Decree No. 17 of 4 March 1940 (D. O. of 7 March 1940), which contains the Law on vacations, holidays and leaves of public employees, is based on the "fact" that public sector teachers are on duty on Independence Day to ensure the smooth unfolding of that day's events.
