The Fiji Governing Cabinet has approved the list of the dates of public holidays for the year 2009. The list pins-down, for 2009, the always uncertain local dates for the Prophet's Birthday, Diwali, and Youth Day, and the announced list also contains some exceptions to the days in lieu rules.
Note that, this is the 6th year in a row that both Youth Day and the Queen's Birthday are included in the official list of Fiji public holidays, despite both holidays having been canceled in 2002 (06-Jan-2002).
However, apart from National Youth Day, and contrary to what happenend last year (29-Mar-2007), there are no surprises in the list of official Fiji public holidays for the calendar year 2009, although, once again, the Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna Day public holiday, which was originally declared as a one-off public holiday (21-Apr-2004), is listed as an official public holidays for the coming year.
