Qazim Abudi, administrative director of the Iraq High Electoral Committee, announced that the long delayed provincial elections would be held on the same day, Saturday, January 31, 2009, in Baghdad and 14 or Iraq's 18 provinces.
Based on what happened on the occasion of previous elections (10-Dec-2005 and 02-Oct-2005), we expect that date to be declared a public holiday in Iraq.
