Kenya's Idd-Ul-Adhha Not A Public Holiday

Kenya's Government Spokesman, Dr Alfred Mutua, has announced that last year's declaration of a public holiday for the Idd-Ul-Adhha Muslim festival was a one-off event and that this year's Idd-Ul-Adhha would not be a public holiday.

This year's Idd-Ul-Adhha festival is expected on December 8, next Monday.

Dr Mutua went on to say that an act of Parliament would have been required to make Eid al-Adha an annual Kenyan public holiday. Such and act of Parliament was promised last year (14-Dec-2007), but nothing ever came of it.
