Kuwait's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, Faisal al-Hajji, has announced that the Cabinet had decided to declare Thursday, December 11, 2008, as a one-off additional public holiday as it is falls between the previously announced Eid Al Adha public holidays and the weekend.
The effect of the aforementioned announcement, and the Kuwaiti Friday-Saturday weekend, is that government institutions will have an extended, 8-day of public holidays, from Friday, December 5, to Saturday, December 13, 2009.
The dates of the upcoming Eid al-Adha public holidays had been announced, last week (24-Nov-2008), as being from Sunday, December 7, to Wednesday, December 10, 2008.
Kuwaiti weekends were moved to Fridays and Saturdays, for the public sector, last year (04-Aug-2007). However, apart from banks, most of the private sector only gets Saturdays off.
