The government of Lithuania has announced that as part of its plans to fend off the current economic crisis, it was planning to abolish the system of declaring an additional, day in lieu, public holiday on the Monday following any public holiday occurring on a weekend.
This would rescind the amendments made to articles 161 and 162 of the Lithuanian Labour code (20-Dec-2005) and would be felt for the first time in April 2009, then in May 2009 and again in August 2009.
