The President of the Maldives, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, acting on a request of the Elections Commission, has declared Tuesday, October 28, the date of second-round voting in presidential elections, and the day after, Wednesday, October 29, 2008, as one-off public holidays.
In 12-Oct-2008, we had surmised that October 28 would be declared a one-off public holiday, but the declaration of the 29th is an additional bonus. And that may not be all there is
Bearing in mind that weekends are Fridays and Saturdays in the Maldives, and that President Gayoom wins a 6th term on October 28, then we expect Thursday, October 30, 2008, to be declared as an additional public holiday in the Maldives to celebrate President Gayoom's victory.
