Friday, December 26, 2008, and Friday, January 2, 2009, have been declared one-off bank holidays in Malta. As such, Malta's commercial banks will be closed on these 2 days.
In addition, the Malta Bankers’ Association announced that, on December 24 and 31, 2008, most banks in Malta will close in the early afternoon.
This double year-end bridge bank holiday, came as a bit of a surprise, as it was last declared in 2001 (17-Dec-2001), before the current administration whose first move when coming to power was to remove days in lieu for public holidays that occurred on a weekend (15-Jan-2005).
