Nigeria Under Pressure To Declare Muharram Public Holiday

The government of Nigeria has been petitioned by a series of Muslim organizations to make the 1st day of Muharram, Islamic New Year, an official federal public holiday in Nigeria.

Note that Muharram is already a public holiday, at the state level, in the state of Kano.
