Taiwan Could Generalize Bridge Public Holidays

(Posted on Friday, December 5, 2008)

Source: The China Post (Taipei)

Comments attributed to Taiwan's Premier, Liu Chao-shiuan, would seem to indicate a new official policy of Friday bridge public holidays that would extend beyond the upcoming January 2 bridge public holiday.

These comments are reported to have been made at the time of his signing of the resolution making Friday, January 2, 2009, a bridge public holiday (02-Dec-2008).

If this is the case, then we can expect 2 additional bridge public holidays in Taiwan in 2009; namely Friday, May 29, and Friday, September 4, 2009.

The reported comments specify that these bridge public holidays would be systematically compensated on the Saturday following the 4-day weekends created by bridge public holidays.

Interestingly, the comments refer specifically to public holidays falling on a Thursday, but do not mention Tuesday public holidays that could also give lieu to a Monday bridge public holiday.
