The government of Turkmenistan has indirectly confirmed that the 3-day of public holidays for the upcoming Eid al Adha public holiday (known locally as Kurban Bairam) would begin on Monday, December 8, 2008.
This alignment of the Central Asian Eid al Adha public holidays dates on the Saudi Umm al Qura calendar is a growing trend followed this year by Kyrgyzstan (26-Nov-2008) and Kazakhstan (21-Nov-2008) and which is probably due to the need to coordinate the dates of Haj pilgrimages with those of Saudi Arabia.
