UAE Declares December 4 Bridge Public Holiday

(Posted on Monday, December 1, 2008)

The Federal Cabinet decided yesterday to declare Thursday, December 4, 2008, a one-off bridge public holiday for federal ministries, department and entities, thereby merging the public holidays for the UAE's 37th national day and for the Eid Al Adha Muslim festival, for the public sector.

This means that the UAE public sector will be on holidays for 10 days, from December 2, 2008 (4th Zul Hija 1429), until December 11, 2008 (13th Zul Hija 1429), as the UAE's 37th national day public holidays extend into this year's Arafat Day and Eid Al Adha public holidays.

For a couple of weeks, there had been some rumors that December 4th might be given as a one-off bridge public holiday for the entire civil service, following an earlier report that all public schools, private schools that follow the curricula of the Ministry of Education, kindergartens and adult education centers in the UAE will all get a holiday from December 2nd to December 13th, inclusively.
