Following the death of former minister John Ateker Ejalu, local leaders from Teso have directed local councils across the region to declare Tuesday, December 23, 2008, when he will be buried, a public holiday because of his contribution towards the liberation of the poor in Uganda and Teso in particular.

In addition, yesterday, Uganda's President, Yoweri Museveni, ordered a state funeral on that same date.
