Uruguay's Tourism Minister, Héctor Lescano, is quoted as saying that it is quite likely (muy probable) that the government will soon declare 2 end-of-the-year bridge public holidays (aka. días sandwich), on Friday, December 26, 2008, and Friday, January 2, 2009.
This possible declaration of December 26 and January 2 as one-off public holidays, would follow earlier announcements by Argentina (10-Dec-2008) and Ecuador (29-Nov-2008), not to mention Nicaragua (05-Dec-2008) and Costa Rica (28-Nov-2008), who declared the entire period from Christmas to the New Year as public holidays for their respective private sectors.
