Uzbekistan Moves Kurban-Hait Public Holiday Date

(Posted on Tuesday, December 2, 2008)

Source: CA-News (Tashkent)

Upon the advice of the Uzbekistan Muslims Administration, Uzbekistan's President, Islam Karimov, signed a decree which declares that the upcoming Kurban-hait (aka. Feast of Sacrifice) public holiday would be held on Monday, December 8, 2008, rather than on the previously announced date of December 9.

Note that this means that both the Kurban-Hait and the Constitution Day public holidays will occur on the same date, December 8, in 2008, in a manner similar to the End of Ramadan and Teachers' Day public holidays earlier this year (27-Sep-2008).

As was the case then, we believe that a day in lieu public holiday will be declared on Tuesday, December 9th, 2008, to compensate for the 2 public holidays occurring on the same date, and also as that date had been announced as a public holiday for months.

The festival of Eid al-Adha was made a national non-working public holiday as per the Decree of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On announcing Ruza Hayit a day off" No.UP-368 of March 27, 1992.
