Uzbekistan Declares January 2 Public Holiday

(Posted on Thursday, December 25, 2008)

The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov, has signed the Resolution "On shifting day-off from Sunday, January 4, 2009 onto Friday January 2, 2009", which declares Friday, January 2, 2009, as a bridge public holiday.

In exchange for this additional, one-off public holiday, the following Sunday, January 4th, 2009, will be a regular working day.

Although Uzbekistan does not adhere to the practice of days in lieu public holidays (the giving of a Monday public holiday to compensate a public holiday that falls on a weekend), it does, on occasion, declare bridge public holidays (25-Dec-2007).
