Earlier today, the government of Afghanistan announced that the presidential elections, widely expected in late-April, had been pushed back to August 20, 2009.
We expect that date to be declared a public holiday, based on past patterns, and the fact that August 20 is a Thursday, and that Fridays are the weekly day of rest in Afghanistan, and that the following Saturday, August 22, is a public holiday for the start of Ramadan) and that the 19th is also a public holiday.
