The newly elected government of Bangladesh has released the list of official public holidays for 2009, 13 of which have been gazetted and 9 others have been declared by executive order.
The most noteworthy aspects of the released list is the confirmation of the Awami-League fetish August 15 public holiday that was restored last summer (10-Aug-2008) and, for good measure, the restoration of the BNP-promoted November 7 public holiday that was canceled at the end of 2007 (29-Nov-2007).
The decree also lists optional public holidays for citizens of different religions; Muslims (5 optional public holidays), Hindu (5 optional public holidays), Christian (8 optional public holidays), and Buddhist (5 optional public holidays).
