Bolivia Could Declare July 17 Public Holiday

(Posted on Thursday, July 2, 2009)

Source: La Razón (La Paz)

The Mayor of Bolivia's capital, La Paz, has requested that the national government declare July 17 as an additional public holiday, to make the annual, July 16, a 2-day public holiday on the occasion of Bolivia's bicentennial.

The official request has yet to reach the Minister of Culture, but in any case such a decision would have to be approved through a Presidential Decree during the next cabinet meeting on July 8.

Note that, in related news, Bolivia's vice minister of culture, Pablo Groux, has suggested that July 17 be made an additional public holiday "because La Paz deserves a break to extend the celebrations and commemorations".
